The Zugspitze and Garmisch-Partenkirchen regions are known as a paradise for mountain sports fans, and for good reason. The unique mountain landscape with its topography offers the best conditions for all types of Alpine sports. Skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing and snowshoe treks are all available in the winter. In summer, go walking, swimming, cycling or paragliding. Grainau is located right at the foot of the Zugspitze and therefore offers the best conditions for all those who like to be the first to catch the lift in the morning. Magnificent mountain landscape

Nature

At 2,962 metres high, the Zugspitze is the king of the Wetterstein range. The massif borders on the Ammergau Alps to the north and the Karwendel range to the east. Here on the border between Bavaria and Tyrol, the nature remains unspoiled and the varied rock formations and rich flora and fauna will leave a lasting impression. Discover the nature of the Alps along the wonderful hiking trails and leave everyday life behind.

Zugspitze
The first ascent of the peak was made in 1820 by Johann Georg Tausch and Karl von Bruck. The climb to Germany's highest mountain is considered demanding, but rewards with a magnificent view.

Situated at an altitude of 973 m, the Eibsee is only 4 km away from the hotel. Its deep green water and beautiful shore edges make it one of the most beautiful lakes in Bavaria.

The accessible Partnachklamm gorge extends over a length of 1 km and is 300 meters deep at its deepest point. The Partnach flows into Lake Kochel below its entrance.

Food for the soul

Art & culture

Culture enthusiasts can set off in search of Bavarian history. Follow the steps of the fairytale king, Ludwig II, in Schachenhaus and the royal palaces of Linderhof and Neuschwanstein. The region’s museums such as the Franz Marc Museum in Kochel or the Geigenbaumuseum in Mittenwald have plenty of interesting exhibits to offer visitors. There are also a number of large events taking part nearby, such as the Oberammergau Passion Play.

Glentleiten
Experience relaxation and enjoy nature. The former monastery in Glenleiten is located at an altitude of 905 m near Riessersee and Kochelsee and is open all year round.

Bavarian traditions and festivals

Tradition

The Oktoberfest has gained a worldwide reputation and draws millions of visitors to Munich every year. But that’s by far not all! Bavarians are famous for protecting and upholding their rural traditions. Anyone on holiday in Bavaria should visit at least one of our local traditional festivals. The best traditional costumes and animals can be seen at events such as the Almabtrieb cattle driving ceremony, Assumption Day, Whitsun or on 1st May.

Leonhardi
The pilgrimage in honor of St. Leonhard takes place every year on November 6. It is held throughout the Alpine region, but the Tölzer Leonhardifahrt is considered the largest and most important.
